As an elementary teacher, helping our students master their math facts is an important goal. After all, the basic operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division are math skills our students will use their entire life. Learning math facts fluently only helps our students for many years to come. But I’ll be the first to admit that flashcards and math fact drills can be boring and unengaging for our students. In my classroom, multiplication is the operation we focus on most. So I have set out to find fun and engaging multiplication activities to help my students master their multiplication facts with fluency. I am so excited to share these no-prep multiplication activities you can start using with your students today!
Digital Multiplication Activities – Boom Cards
Boom cards are an absolute favorite for me and my kiddos. They feel so much more like a game than learning. But, they also give me an opportunity to get in some multiplication facts practice too!
I love using Boom Cards because they are an independent and engaging way for students to get essential skills practice. And, it requires ZERO prep for me!
Math Fact Practice
When I want to give my students targeted practice on specific multiplication facts, I use Boom Cards. These activities allow my students to focus on one number and the multiplication facts that are connected to it.
Connect that with the ability to target practice in a variety of ways and you’ve got a great activity for learning math facts. Students will practice finding the product, identifying the missing number and connecting the multiplication problem to division.
Because my students can use these Boom Cards independently, it’s easy for me to differentiate them based on the facts each student needs to practice the most. I love that these can be played repeatedly and are great for independent learning. I use mine during our math centers, as morning work, and even as an independent early finisher activity!
Multiplication Review Boom Cards
Boom Cards are also great for multiplication fact review. Studnets can independently work through these activities to review all of their multiplication facts in a fun and engaging way.
These multiplication Boom Cards are a great way to get students thinking critically about multiplication while having some winter fun. Students must choose two of the snowballs in the image that can be multiplied to make the product.
There are also Boom Cards that engage students in completing a digital multiplication chart and multiplying with playing cards. Students love the game-like feel of these digital multiplication activities. This helps to keep them engaged and learning.
Boom Cards can be used on your Smartboard, computer, iPad, tablets, or other mobile devices. And, the best part is, these multiplication Boom Cards are self-checking and track student progress. This makes it easy for you to differentiate your student’s progress and differentiate instruction when needed.
You can find a variety of Multiplication Boom Cards in my store on Teachers Pay Teachers. Here’s just a few that my students love!
Multiplication Activities Color by Code Worksheets
Color-by-code worksheets are an absolute favorite of teachers and students alike. And, it’s no wonder. Math fact practice with some coloring and creativity. Kids of all ages love coloring and connecting it with math practice makes it a win-win!
Many color cy code activities have just as many practice problems, if not more, than your average worksheet or textbook practice. However, color by code activities increase engagement. And we all know that when students are engaged, they are learning!
These multiplication color-by-code worksheets are perfect for math centers, morning work, homework, targeted multiplication practice, or early finisher activities.
No matter how you choose to use these fun multiplication worksheets, you can be sure your students will have fun while learning!
Multiplication Activities and Games
Do you ever wish your teachers played more learning games with you when you were a kid? I sure do! And, I will tell you, my students are always asking to play games. They have become a staple of our learning and something both my students and I appreciate! Here are some of my favorite multiplication games.
Write the Array Scoot Game
This Write the Array Scoot Game helps students practice visualizing multiplication facts. To set up this multiplication activity, all I have to do is print out the scoot cards and put one on each desk.
Then, each student takes a recording sheet and identifies which number card they have. Then, they solve the problem at their desk and record the answer.
After 30 seconds you say “scoot” and everyone rotates to the next question to solve and record. Keep saying “scoot” until students have completed all the questions and made it back to their desks. Feel free to adjust how long you give students on each card based on the needs of your students. A little less time adds a challenge that really gets students focused.
Send some task cards and recording sheets home with your students before winter break and have them play this fun game with their families. It’s a sneaky, but super fun way to help your students get in even more multiplication practice during the weeks off from school.
Multiplication Jokes
Are your students like mine when it comes to corny Dad jokes? They LOVE them and will do almost anything for a good joke. I love hearing the squeals of laughter as my students complete these Dad joke multiplication activities.
These worksheets allow students to practice multiplication while decoding the joke too!
My students love these multiplication dad jokes so much, they are constantly requested for centers, early finisher activities, and even homework. And. . . the best part is hearing my students tell these jokes to their classmates or friends after.
