Spring Theme March Activities
March Activities for Morning Work
Welcoming little ones into the classroom at different times can often result in a flurry of activity from the moment they enter until the last backpack is unpacked. To bring order to the morning chaos, I make sure to have a structured and consistent routine. One of my go-to strategies is implementing morning work. We use the March Morning Work resource in my room. It’s a transformational tool that has turned hectic mornings into focused learning moments, effortlessly.
This resource provides daily ELA and Math spiral review activities, offering learners consistent and manageable exposure to key skills. By breaking down these skills into small, digestible chunks, I ensure that my students aren’t overwhelmed and can confidently engage in a well-rounded practice routine each morning. As an educator, the peace of mind that comes from knowing my young learners are starting their day with purposeful learning is invaluable.
Even if you already have a morning routine in place, the flexibility of this resource makes it a valuable addition. Whether pulled for fast finishers, integrated into literacy or math center rotations, or utilized during personalized one-on-one sessions, March Morning Work proves to be a versatile time-saver and a powerhouse for skill-building.
Spring Equinox
Next up, the Spring Equinox takes center stage. I’ve found a perfect way to weave it seamlessly into our daily routine. I sprinkle the March activities from this resource into our morning routine, early finisher bins, and centers, creating a dynamic and engaging learning environment.
The variety of word searches, graphing challenges, and crosswords have become instant favorites among my students, adding an element of fun to their literacy and math exercises. And for the budding creative writers in my class, the writing prompts provide an avenue for self-expression and imaginative exploration.
These activities captivate their interest and assure me that my students are actively practicing their skills while reveling in the joy of learning. It’s a win-win scenario that makes our classroom a vibrant hub of educational excitement during this season!
Spring Cootie Catcher
I incorporate this Spring Cootie Catcher into my classroom for a dose of fun during our spring literacy centers. It’s an enjoyable seasonal activity but also serves as a way for students to engage with a friend as they read the jokes to each other.
What I particularly love about this resource is its low-prep nature. This makes it a handy tool for unexpected moments, like when I need a substitute or have some unplanned free time on my hands.
The outside of the Cootie Catcher comes labeled with spring-themed words, providing the perfect prompts for students to enjoy the fortune teller and discover the spring-themed jokes hidden inside. It’s a simple yet effective way to infuse laughter and interaction into the classroom, giving everyone a well-deserved break from the usual routine!
Spring Logic Puzzles
I love introducing these Spring Logic Puzzles to activate my students’ logic and reasoning skills. These puzzles serve as an excellent addition to our spring math centers and work seamlessly as math logic puzzles during morning activities, fast finishers, and more.
These puzzles challenge my students to complete the Sudoku board with the correct spring-themed visuals, adhering to the given criteria. The process requires careful consideration of each move, providing an effective way for students to enhance their critical thinking skills. Before letting them go on their own, I introduce the concept of Sudoku puzzles to my students by completing a few with them. This step helps them grasp the associated vocabulary, such as row, column, and 2×2 square.
Once they become familiar with the Sudoku puzzles, this resource transforms into a fantastic spring math center. It engages students in meaningful logic and reasoning practice. Plus, seeing their eyes light up when they successfully solve a puzzle is a very heartwarming moment!
Once they beat the spring logic puzzles, have your students try their hand at the Easter logic puzzles!
Spring Write the Room
Spring Write the Room activity is one of my favorite March activities to bring into my classroom. It helps me to add a fun and interactive twist to practicing our sight words. This fun secret code spelling game gets my students up and moving around the room. My kiddos have a blast working to solve the code for each of their sight words.
What makes this activity truly versatile is its ability to cater to individual student needs. I can easily differentiate by selecting the sight word list that suits my students best. I can even go further by deciding on the number of secret code spelling stations they need to complete.
I’m all about time efficiency as well, so this is a powerful tool for helping my students while it’s also quick to set up. I find it particularly handy for substitute teachers or as a filler when we have a few minutes before the bell rings. Other ways I have used these cards include hiding the spelling cards around the room for a scavenger hunt, placing them in a work bin for fast finishers, incorporating them into center rotations, or even using them as flashcards during partner activities. The possibilities are endless!
My Easter Write the Room is also a big hit amongst my students by having them up and moving around the room!

The best part is that these spring literacy centers are a breeze to set up, allowing me to introduce a fun and engaging spring activity without any stress.
My kiddos love utilizing the jokes decoder, matching symbols to the correct letters, and revealing the answers. This interactive approach keeps them on-task while enjoying the process of learning. I can see them transform into their detective alter-egos as they search for the symbols to decode!

St. Patrick’s Day ELA and Math Activities

Each practice page has my students actively practicing important skills. It features two versions of an informational reading passage about St. Patrick’s Day, giving my kiddos some background information on what this day entails. I then build on that for them by having them work on the writing prompts, puzzles, and games!
My students’ personal favorites include vocabulary crossword puzzles, mystery pictures, I Spy, and Capture the Clover. Since noticing this, I make sure to use these pages leading up to St. Patrick’s Day instead of waiting. I fit these in during small groups, centers, and morning work to help us get into the celebration mindset!
Mixed Up Vocabulary for March Activities
In my literacy centers, I’ve introduced an engaging activity using these St. Patrick’s Day-themed task cards. These cards have truly transformed the way my students approach word unscrambling. Each task card presents a scrambled word. The challenge is for my students to unscramble it and spell it correctly.
The St. Patrick’s theme that runs through these task cards adds an exciting and festive element to the activity. Bringing a burst of enthusiasm to our literacy sessions for my students. The thematic connection aligns with the season and acts as a motivating factor. It instantly captures my students’ attention and sparks their curiosity.
As my students decipher the scrambled words related to St. Patrick’s Day, they enhance their spelling skills. They also develop problem-solving abilities and critical thinking, which are important life skills as well. The combination of cognitive engagement and the theme contributes to a positive and dynamic learning environment. The St. Patrick’s theme has truly elevated the educational experience, making word unscrambling a highlight of our literacy centers.
