James and the Giant Peach Novel Study

Description

In keeping with my LOVE for Roald Dahl books, I have created a James and the Giant Peach novel study to go hand in hand with Roald Dahl’s book James and the Giant Peach.

I have created an 85-page resource that comes with:

• James and the giant peach activities
• James and the giant peach worksheets
• James and the giant peach summary
• James and the giant peach chapter questions
• James and the giant peach comprehension questions
• James and the giant peach quizzes
• and so much more!

This novel study can be used for independent readers as an independent novel study or as a class taught novel study.

• There are over 50 thought-provoking, discussion engaging questions included! (These questions have directions on how to print them onto post-it notes and affix them into the novel so you have them at your fingertips as you read)

• 110+ vocabulary words to be printed on post-it notes and affixed into the book. I use these vocab words for journal exercises, comprehension, synonym and antonym work,etc. I find Roald Dahl’s rich vocabulary lends to discussions on not only decoding unknown words but using context to figure out what words mean – this will also lead to richer writing tasks as the student’s vernacular grows

• Book vs. Movie comparison complete with a comprehensive list of the differences noted between the book and the movie (I find that reading the book and then watching the movie opens up a discussion for how the written word is interpreted and translated into film)

• Media Literacy ideas are suggested

• Word/Character Cards for the pocket chart

This is a great unit if you need to leave something for a supply teacher as all they have to do is read and discuss!

I hope you enjoy the book James and the giant peach and are able to watch James and the Giant Peach movie for comparison. It truly is a remarkable work of literary genius.
